Our Experiences November 2009: We went on an outing to Ritters Cider Mill where we learned about the process of making cider and taking care of livestock. We toured the mill and even got to take a hayride! We talked to local farmers and got to pick our own pumpkins!! Thank you Ritters!!
December - January 2010:
We found out from the high school that there was a senior who wanted to do their senior project with us. We were able to go work in the Building Trades workshop with Michelle, a senior who will be entering the field of construction. She taught us how to make a picnic table and planters which we will set up at the middle school in the spring. Can't wait for a picnic!! We were allowed to use ALL of the tools in the shop and experience what it would be like to be a builder!! Thanks Mr. Wargo & Michelle M.!!
All Year Long!
Our very own Yearbook! We were responsible for taking pictures of events that occurred throughout the school year. We edited them and designed our own yearbook that we can keep for years to come!
February 2010 Ice Works!
We took a trip to Ice Works, where we learned about sculpting and how to create masterpieces out of ice! There was so much to see. Did you know that the sculptors took a variety of courses to learn how to do this? They are very artistic and imaginative. They envision what they want to make and then sketch it out. They start by scoring the ice and breaking off large pieces. There are all kinds of tools to get the details they want, but mostly they use a chain saw to create these sculptures. What a fun job this would be!
Almost Spring 2010.....Let's Grow Something!
We took the planters that we built earlier in the year and started to plant some seedlings so that we can put them outside by our picnic table when the weather gets warm. We have a variety of herbs and plants that we can watch grow!
March 2010 Bowling!
On our outing to the bowling alley we learned about what local business owners might look for in a potential employee. Overall we found that willingness to learn and being reliable are extremely important. They are willing to train you to the job as long as you show up everyday! Other characteristics of good employees are: trustworthiness, getting along with others, good work ethic, and always putting forth your best effort. After talking to the managers, we were allowed to have some fun!!
Year Long Projects.........
Working on 21st Century Skills such as: PRODUCTIVITY, WORKING WITH OTHERS, PREPAREDNESS, WORK ETHIC, CITIZENSHIP, ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS, & CAREER EXPLORATION
We researched a wide variety of careers and learned a lot about them including: education needed to persue the job, characteristics you should have to perform the job well, duties you would have to do, skills needed, yearly salary, & education... There are so many different opportunities out there, we talked about the pros and cons of certain jobs and whether or not we think we would be good at them!
